Why did you set up RJP town planners?

I set up RJP to create my ideal job, where I could build a smart team (tick) and work with great clients (tick). The goal was, and is, to provide a great standard of professional service that is flexible, responsive and dynamic.

Experience, specialism & skills

Over the last 24 years, I have learned to be effective at bringing teams, clients, stakeholders and decision makers together and finding consensus where there had been tensions, leading to successful outcomes. I’ve worked on a huge variety of projects and studies including (but of course not limited to): development policy; climate change research; masterplanning; major rail infrastructure development and consenting (including TWAOs); environmental impact assessments; and major energy infrastructure development and consenting (including DCOs).

Tell us what you like best about being a town planner?

I love the diversity of projects, clients and colleagues. I’m often heard uttering the cliché: ‘every day’s a school day’. In the last year alone I’ve learned more about social value, systems engineering, and how to develop and set exam questions. Never a dull moment.

Aside from work

Ruth loves cycling. She's actively involved with the property charity Club Peloton and has participated in both Pedelle and Cycle to MIPIM. For some reason, she quite enjoys cycling up steep hills.
